MY GRANDMOTHER, THE FIRST MARTIAN
Living with her family in the Simud colony of Mars, Maya’s life was very ordinary. School, exams, life with her constantly busy parents was the same no matter where you were in the universe. Luckily, she had her best friend, the robot Bo… And her grandmother, who was famous for being the first baby born on Mars…
One day, Maya went to the surface of Mars to collect rock samples for her geography homework. Of course, she didn't know that she and her grandmother would embark on a crazy adventure that day. The future of Mars, and even humanity, was in great danger, and there was only one person who could prevent it...
My Grandmother, the First Martian, is a science fiction book set in the 24th century and telling the adventures of 10-year-old Maya and her grandmother, the first Martian.
The plot is intertwined with xenophobia, where even educated people can develop an unfounded distrust of "others" and go so far as to undermine peace and prosperity. On the other hand, the grandmother advises Maya that "the coexistence and exchange of ideas between different cultures is enriching." Intelligent aliens as well as humans from Earth are subject to this xenophobia, and peaceful cooperation between these different life forms is in danger.
The Mars settlers have learned from their bitter experiences on Earth, where resources were ruthlessly depleted, and have made the Martians aware of resource scarcity. Even though they are about to terraform Mars, they are determined not to repeat the same mistakes.
